![]() Raquel Avila - Missionary to Peru Raquel Avila was saved at the age of nine and sporadically attended the Blue Ridge Baptist Temple in Kansas City, Missouri. In 1990 she started back to church ready to receive the truths being taught. She rededicated her life, started tithing and was baptized. She became involved in the bus ministry and a counseling/discipleship program through Kansas City Baptist Temple. She knew God was moving her in a different direction, so she resigned her job and started Bible college. Rachel took a summer mission trip and completed a
one-year term of service, both in Cusco, Peru. While laboring at the
camp in Peru, she struggled with the reason she was there. She thought,
"Anybody could do this." But while listening to a CD of Hebrews 11, she
realized she was afraid to step out in faith. Her thoughts returned to
the United States, and she knew there was nothing in the U.S. that made
her long for "home." Peru was now her home. Raquel Avila is ready to return to Peru as a fulltime missionary and continue her work with Rudy and Lorraine Johnson. Excerpt from the Baptist Bible Tribune November 2005 issue, page 11 |
