Dear Praying Friends,
Greetings from Bolivia, South America! It's difficult to believe, but a
year has passed since our return. John 15:5 says "I am the Vine, ye are
the branches; he that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth
much fruit; for without Me ye can do nothing". I believed that verse
pastoring in the States, and now ministering in a foreign culture and using
a foreign language, our dependence on God is driven home! Let me give
testimony of some "fruit" of the Vine of our year here in Bolivia.
First, God has led us in the founding of a new work in San Luis. It is a
staunchly traditional catholic community, resistant to any change. Yet, a
place where God desires to do a work! We started with a children's Bible
study on Saturdays, then began working with their parents. Praise the
Lord, to date over 60 have received Christ as Savior! We have rented a
nice 3 room (and bath!) house on main street and are holding regular
services.
Second, God has led in the restarting of the Bible Baptist Institute of
Tarija with 21 students. Let me introduce one of them to you. Roberto has
been saved less than a year. He is married to one of the young ladies of
the church in Tabladita. (I have to pause here just to give a little of
her testimony. We led her mother to the Lord years ago, just before she
passed away from cancer. Then, at the tender age of 14, she assumed the
role of mother for 9 younger brothers and sisters.) Roberto was lost when
they married, and there were some rough years of alcohol and abuse. Praise
the Lord he is now saved, called to preach, and preparing for the ministry!
In three weeks we finish our first semester. Then we have a month off for
"winter break". (July is Bolivia's coldest month.) Please pray for these
students, the future of the ministry here in Bolivia.
One last prayer request: We are finishing the classroom construction in
the Bible Baptist Church of Tabladita. This past week end the roof was
completed over these new Sunday School rooms. We have one floor to pour,
and then hang the doors and windows. Please pray about the $1,500. we need
to finish this project.
Thank you for your prayers and support!
