September 2007

Dear Prayer Warriors,

EARTHQUAKE IN PERU, Everyone that we know is safe. At 8.0, it shook up many people. The quake lasted three minutes, which is a long time for the earth to be moving. It happened in late August.

I’m encouraged as I write today. Pastor Jose Gutiérrez and family have settled in.  Sunday morning attendance has stayed above 50 since his arrival. Souls have already been saved and two baptized since he assumed the pastorate of the Hispanic work. Pastor Jose preached a good message in English during a recent Sunday 6 PM service at Arden Road Baptist Church, then went across town for the 7PM service and preached an even better message (in Spanish of course) to a much smaller crowd at 630 N. Bivins. I believe the Lord will use Pastor Jose to build a strong Spanish speaking Church here in Amarillo, TX  (click here to see my Special Letter to Pastors).

The flame that the Lord kindled in our hearts for Peru years ago never has gone out. After attending the loan fund meeting in Feb. 2007, Deb and I believe that the Lord would have us return to Peru and pick up where we left off. We will officially change fields at the September Fellowship meeting in Rhode Island.

We thank the Lord for allowing us to spend the last couple of years with our mothers before they passed away. At the same time we retained our missionary status (USLG) working with the Arden Road Baptist Church Hispanic ministry. The Spanish speaking group has taken some great strides of faith of and should be organizing as an independent Baptist church soon. We will be visiting churches trying to raise personal support and help to purchase the parsonage and church plant on North Bivins Street in Amarillo.

Serving our Lord Together,

Max & Debbie Harmon
