BBFI Missionaries
to Brazil for 41 years

February 14, 2008

Dear friends in Christ,

We are praising the Lord for the special privilege He recently gave to us. Our caretaker, Evaldo and his wife, Joelma, have visited our church with us once and their 7-year old daughter goes to Sunday School with us every Sunday. Jaqueline keeps telling her parents that our church is better than their church because she understands everything her teacher says! THEY ARE GETTING MORE INTERESTED and invited me to say a "few words" on New Year's Eve to a gathering of 29 family members. For the first time in my life, I had the rare opportunity to preach to 29 unsaved people who gave me their complete attention, who all admitted when I read John 3:16, that they had never heard that verse before, and who want to hear more. I am scheduled to teach them again in a few days.

On February 3rd - 5th, we had a mini youth camp here at our "acreage-turned-camp-grounds". We  had 13 young teenagers from two different churches and it was the first time for any of them to go to camp. Missionary Jerry Hickey did a great job in challenging them to "Row Against the Current and Not Go with the Flow of the World". Praise the Lord with us for the working of the Holy Spirit in the lives of these young people.

We are thankful that the Brazilian Rotating Fund continues to stimulate growth among our Baptist Bible churches here in Brazil. At present about $6,000.00 is coming in monthly in loan payments from the churches. That means every two or three months it is possible to make another loan. If you have contributed to our loan fund, your contribution has worked to build more than one church.  Please consider sending a contribution to the Rotating Fund this year.

Troubling news! Missionaries all over the world are beginning to feel the effect of the decline in the value of the dollar. Over the past three years here in Brazil, we have not only had a 56% decline in value (from R$3,96 reals per dollar to R$1,75) but during this same period the cost of living in Brazil has increased by over 25% according to fairly reliable sources. So ----- a loaf of bread costing R$4,00 (reals) in 2005, now costs R$5,00(reals). The dollar cost in 2005 was $1.00: now it is $2.86.  The current price of gasoline is $5.70 per gallon. We have cut back on everything trying to adjust to the situation. We just wanted you to know so you could pray for us during these difficult times. We are very thankful to those of you who have been able to increase our support in these last few months.  Faithfulness is all that our Lord has asked of any of us.

We want to thank you for your love, your prayers and your faithful support.

Yours missionaries to Brazil,
